In 2003, Wendy Kusler, a landlord of single family homes in the Lansing, Michigan area and manager of vacation properties in northern Michigan, began a dream of having her own website. This proposed website would allow renters to search online for available rental property including single-family rental houses, apartments for rent, duplexes, condos and vacation homes for rent. She researched the idea and found that a only a handful of websites were already doing this on a national level. Recognizing these sites lacked a large selection of properties when one searched for large cities in Michigan she secured the domain name RentinMichigan.com.
The larger sites were driving results on a national level, not locally or regionally or even statewide. Wendy envisioned a site that gave renters a large selection of properties when they searched in their target area. She realized the difference was that the site would have to market within the target market of renters and expand out to other states and then nationally.
Because of the keywords “Rent” and “Michigan” in the domain name, the traffic increased very quickly and a few short months later, home-owners, landlords and property managers began uploading home rental ads on RentinMichigan.com’s user-friendly searchable website. They now had the ability to quickly upload and advertise available houses for rent, apartments for rent, vacation rentals and other rental property with detailed large text descriptions and full-color photos of the rentals to be viewed by serious tenants who were looking for homes for rent online.
RentinMichigan.com is driving traffic and advertisers to the site by using direct sales, advertising, email and direct mail marketing. Due to superior customer service, excellent pricing plans and high visitor traffic, RentinMichigan.com plans to become one of the premier rental sources to find or advertise houses for rent, apartments for rent, and vacation homes for rent in the state of Michigan.
Currently, the RentinMichigan.com business plan envisions market listings in most major cities in Michigan by mid-2006, with expansion into other states planned thereafter.
